A Healthy Alternative To Dunkin – Homer Simpson Donuts

The Simpsons is a popular cartoon on television that has been around for more than twenty years. You most likely have watched it occasionally and become familiar with the characters, but will be surprised to find that the latest confection creation was identified with the popular show. Instead of choosing Dunkin Donuts you can make your own slightly healthier Homer Simpson donuts from home. It looks just like the donuts that Homer Simpson scarfs down, but with less calories.


A great aspect of these amazing donuts, is that the batter is made using cream, which only adds to the overall richness of the dough. A light raspberry glaze is drizzled over the donut to produce a pinkish color, but you can hardly taste the raspberry flavor. You simply add some sprinkles and have the perfect treat option.

  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup vegetable or canola oil (plus more for frying)
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 6 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups boiling water
  • 3 egg yolks
  •  8 1/2 cups flour

Instructions For The Dough

Combine the water and yeast, you can stir it a couple of times but set it aside. In a separate bowl mix together the oil, cream, sugar, salt, cinnamon and vanilla. Next just add the water into the cream mixture and stir thoroughly. Once that is mixed, add the egg yolks and continue to stir until it is fully mixed together.

A cup at a time, begin adding the flour with your mixer. Once the dough is fully together is will be slightly sticky and wet. You can now move the dough to an oiled plate and allow it to rise. If you use the warmth of your over, be sure that it is not on too high, because that will cook the dough.


How To Make The Homer Simpson Donut

To make the donuts, you simply divide you dough and cut out donut shapes, but be sure to remember the donut hole. Place the cut donuts onto baking sheets and allow them to continue to rise for a little less than an hour.

Next you have to fill a large pot with oil, so that you can fry the donuts. Your oil should be about 350 degrees F, but you can use a candy thermometer to get the temperature exact. Let each donut cook all the way through on each side for thirty seconds. Once each donut is fried, simply set it aside on a paper towel to cool.

Pink Glaze Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 tablespoon fresh raspberry juice
  • 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 1/2 ounces white chocolate
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

Pink Glaze Instructions

Combine the ingredients over heat until the entire mixture is melted. Once you give the mixture time to cool, you can begin dunking the donuts into the glaze. Just add some rainbow colored sprinkles and you have great Homer Simpson Donuts to munch on.
