It’s really easy to start cutting out food groups and lowering your calories but this isn’t healthy – and it doesn’t work! The best tip for weight loss is to eat a balanced and healthy diet.
That means eating carbohydrates, proteins and even fat! Yes, fat! Your diet needs to be made up of about 10% in fat but choose the healthy types.
If you love bread and pasta, do a switch to the brown varieties. These will make you feel fuller and are healthier options for you.
Unlike the white varieties, these ones breakdown in your system slower, which means that less sugars are released into your bloodstream so you don’t get the sugar rush – or the health problems linked to that!
Fruit and veggies are full of carbohydrates and natural sugars, while remaining healthy snacks.
Not only do they have limited calories, they are full of water which is the perfect way to make sure you get enough fluids into your diet on a daily basis; have chopped carrots and celery sticks for a snack with some humus or salsa instead of potato chips and chocolate.
Exercise is a great way to burn more calories and tone up but you need to think about the type of exercise you do. Interval training and hill reps are much better for weight loss.
You increase the heart rate and make the body work harder. It also means that the muscles are working for a longer period afterwards.
Resistance and weight training are great options for building muscle but they will not necessarily help you lose weight.
However, when you are after that bikini body, it is worth throwing some exercises in. Just don’t rely on them burning all the calories – that’s what cardio exercises are for.
Too many people try to lose 10 pounds in a week but avoid rushing it. 10 pound per week weight loss isn’t healthy (unless you’re like those on the Biggest Loser where it is all supervised!).
Between one and two pounds per week is perfect but you can go over that now and then. You will lose more weight to start with as you lose the water retention but after a couple of weeks it should even out on the lower side.
It takes time but it is much easier to keep off in the long term!
Eating in moderation is the trick to losing weight. If you tell yourself that you can’t have something, what happens?
You want it more! Don’t tell yourself no but limit it so you still lose weight, whether it is potato chips, chocolate or even lasagne.
