Pregnancy Perils and Pitfalls

It is one of the most joyful feelings in the world when you find out that you are pregnant. There are a lot of changes that your body will go through between conception until birth, and some of them may not be a ride in the park. However, it is all part of the experience, and at the end of it you will have a beautiful baby to be proud of.

Nausea

One of the most difficult things that women will have to endure as a rule, is morning sickness. This usually affects the early stages of pregnancy and will normally end at around 16-20 weeks.

There are things that you can do if you are suffering from morning sickness. Ginger is a good remedy and is of course a natural alternative.

If however, the symptoms are more severe, you can get referred by your doctor for acupressure or in very severe cases, medication.

Heartburn

Another bane of many pregnant women’s lives, heartburn is something that is mostly a problem in the middle to late stages of pregnancy. It can occur at any time, but stooping or bending over can bring it on or make it a lot worse.

There are antacid medicines that your doctor can give you to help with this problem. Some women find that along with morning sickness, eating little and often can alleviate the symptoms.

Exercise

If you were the sporty type before you became pregnant, then there is no need to alter this drastically now that you are pregnant.

Moderate course of exercise is not associated with an adverse outcome and gentle regular exercise is thought to improve the labour experience.

There are obviously certain types of sport that you should avoid. Contact sports, high impact sports, or vigorous racquet sports can cause excessive joint stress and is unwise in later pregnancy.

Air Travel

If you have a romantic holiday planned, or a nice break away in the sun, then you may want to do this sooner rather than later. There are potential risks from air travel, especially long haul flights.

To minimise the risk of thrombosis, you should wear some of those sexy flight socks during the flight, and try to get up and walk about once an hour. You should also drink plenty of water, even though this will make the frequency of using the toilet even worse.

If you are going to travel after 28 week, you may need to supply the airline with a medical certificate proving your fitness to fly, so if you want a holiday, it may be easier to do it sooner.

Pregnancy should, and usually is a wonderful even in a womans life. It can also be a time when you may need to make changes to your life for the duration of the pregnancy. The important thing is to look after yourself, eat well, and keep doing the exercise if you can.

If you keep these things in mind and follow the advice of your doctor, then there is no reason why you should not have a very joyous and glowing pregnancy.
