Simple Tips to be a Happier Mum

There is no wrong or right way to look after your children, as long as they are safe. However, even if they grow up disciplined, happy and healthy, it doesn’t mean you feel the same way. It’s important to look after yourself during those years. It is the best way to make sure you’re 100% happy and always there for your children. Here are some tips to be a happier mum.

Take Some Time Off

You deserve a break from your children. It doesn’t matter what parenting style you opt for, or whether you stay at home or work. You need a break from the children. Arrange for your children to go to nursery or hire a babysitter one night a week for a few hours so you get a chance to go out with your friends.

Don’t Try to be Someone Else

It’s really easy to try and copy someone else’s parenting style—or even someone else’s style altogether. That is not going to help you be happy. You’ll become that other person and feel detached from your own life. You will find your own parenting style as the months and years go on. There is nothing wrong with advice, but find your own way of doing things.

Have a Chill-Out Day

Once a week, you need a chill-out day. It’s a day when no housework is done, you’re not answering your phone or checking emails, and you have no errands to do. You can spend the whole day watching movies or playing with your little ones. Everybody needs that day to themselves and their family, where they’re at the mercy of nobody.

Spend Time with Friends

Don’t let yourself get cooped up in the house the whole time. The first two to four weeks you may need it, but after that you need to socialise. Find a parent and toddler group in your area, or take your baby swimming. Meet other mums in your area, and you will soon find that you feel healthier and happier for it.

Exercise Daily

Exercise is essential to feeling happier—and it will also help you with that baby weight gain. You don’t need to do a lot, and it doesn’t need to be a hard session at the gym. Consider doing some fitness classes, go swimming, or even get a workout DVD that you can do in the house. As your children get older, get them to join in with the exercises to so they develop a love for healthier living.

Eat a Good Diet

Don’t spend all your day filling your mouth with junk food. Instead, eat a healthy and nutritious diet. Getting the right vitamins and minerals will boost your brain power and your mood, as well as improve your health. You won’t feel as tired or as run down, so you will be happier throughout the day. It will also help you with that post baby weight gain! That doesn’t mean give up all the treats, but keep them for moderation.
