6 Reasons to Turn Down that Dream Job

You’ve just been offered your dream job. At least, you think it’s your dream job. It could end up being the biggest mistake of your life. There are a few considerations that you need to make to determine whether you should accept it or not. Here are some signs that it is something to turn down.

The Pay Is Less Than Your Current Wage

Will it force you to take a pay cut? Depending on your lifestyle, this may not be a problem. You may have applied knowing it would be a pay cut and you’d rather have a job you love. However, if you’re happy in the job you have at the moment and don’t want to lose out on the extra money, don’t take that new opportunity. You’ll only regret it a few months down the line when you’re struggling to keep up financially.

The Company Has a Bad Reputation

If it’s a new company, it can take a few hours to determine whether you’ll end up tainting your name because of the company you keep.

People Are In and Out of the Job Quickly

Find out more about the time the last person in the role spent there, and then the person before that. You may even have to check the person before that. If there is a high turnover rate, it could be a warning sign that something isn’t quite right with the role.

You’ll never know the reason for the other person leaving—it could be a better opportunity elsewhere or the fact that the job was a nightmare!

You Love Your Current Job

Do you really want to leave your current place of work? It can be difficult when you’ve just been offered what you think is your dream job—you won’t want to miss this possible once in a lifetime opportunity.

However, if you’re 100% happy where you are at the moment, what’s the point in leaving? This is especially the case if the pay is lower or the same.

Your Gut Is Telling You No

The last thing you want is to go into a job where your gut is telling you there’s a problem and then find out a few months down the line that you’re working illegally or you’re going to be fired for someone else’s mistake.

Job Security Is Poor

This can be hard to determine now, with so many workplaces closing down, but you do need to consider it. Take some time to research the company and the role that you’ll be taking on.

Find out more online about people in similar roles and whether you’re more secure in the current job you have.
