Within your business plan is your marketing plan. Many business owners skip this and just try out anything and everything. That’s not going to help you. You need to clearly layout all your marketing options, along with your budget. From there, you can split your time and budget up carefully between all your different marketing options to see if things are realistic. You’ll then need to check back regularly to make sure your options are working as you expected and change your plan if you need to.

Develop Networking Skills

You also need to network. You’ll need to create deals with other business and work with those who are in similar lines to help promote your company.

There’s a common saying of “it’s not what you know, but who you know” and this is very true when it comes to running a business. By knowing the right people, you’ll get better investment opportunities and get your business off the ground quickly.

Consider Working Part-Time

The early stages of running your own business are difficult. You’ll have little money to work from and you could find your business loses income. You need to have some money coming in from somewhere.

It’s often worth having a job and starting your business on the side. If you don’t yet have a job, consider working part-time somewhere so you at least have something coming in to pay the bills.
