Hopefully without giving away too much information about my age, when I was a school there was no such thing as a prom and I didn’t attend my leaving ball at University, we did out own thing.
But, these days, borrowing from American culture, there is a prom for everything – turning 16, finishing school, finishing sixth form or college, and finishing university. There are probably more occasions that call for a prom, like getting a new car or joining a gym, but I’m a little bit out of the loop.
Thanks to some in-depth discussions with my younger sister, who has a prom coming up this summer, I now know what every girl must have for prom to feel like the princess she has secretly always wanted to be, tomboy or not…
The Dress
It all has to start with the dress – you may never have an occasion to wear that prom dress again, but you still want to be the most special thing you have ever owned. So will it be a vintage-style beaded number, a classic 50’s style prom dress, or a contemporary mini dress with stand-out embellishments? Whatever the dress, make sure that it is one that you love.

The Shoes
The dress may be so long that you wont even see them, but that doesn’t mean you don’t want a fabulous pair to match the dress. In addition the higher the heel the longer your legs look and the better your figure looks in general. However, as you are probably going to be on your feel all night, so either choose a platform heel for less pressure or make sure you pop in a pair of cushioned insoles. Remember to chose a shoe that is rather neutral or classic black in colour, so the dress remains the main attraction. You will be ready to dance the night away.

The Bag
Now you are going to need a little clutch bag to keep you camera, lipstick and phone in and that plan old black clutch you have had for years just isn’t going to cut it. If you really want to match your bag to the elegance of the occasion you really should go for a metallic number or a embellished box clutch.

Beauty
What prom princess would be ready to go to the ball without her make-up done to perfection. Everything from the hair, to the nails, to the lips to the eyes, everything must be done to with absolute precision – not a single hair can be out of place. However, the key is not to plaster the make-up on; I know it is a special occasion and you really want to glam up for it, but if you overdo it, you are going to look more drag queen than prom queen. Make a feature out of the eye or lip, never both.

Whilst jewellery should be kept to a minimum, especially with a heavily embellished dress, there is no harm in a few simple accessories to accentuate your look. Something simple in your hair and a classic pair of earrings, can add a little bit of extra sparkle to your look.

A High School Prom Party
Why not take yourself back to high school? Think about the prom or the other dances that you attended and have that as your theme. You could don ball gowns and have punch that is alcoholic this time. The whole evening could be something that you would have done before a prom, including the going out for a small bite to eat first and getting a limo to the place for the party.
A Cocktail Making Class
Who said that you can’t learn something new during your hen party? Why not try a cocktail making class? These are extremely popular for hen parties, and are ready for the large groups of women who want to have fun together.
The baristas are also ready for the large parties and definitely know how to entertain.
A Slumber Party
Do you remember when you were kids and loved the slumber parties that you’d have with friends? This could be a great hen party idea for your group of friends. The best thing is that it is likely to cost little money, and you have free reign of food and drink.
Get the sleeping bags out and sleep on the living room floor. You can watch movies all evening, do pedicures and enjoy the gossip like you used to.
Go On a Camping Trip
Another way to make a different hen party spectacular is with a camping trip. There’s no need to pick a muddy site, though.
You could opt for “glamping,” which involves huts and caravans instead of tents. If you’re tight on funds, consider camping in your back garden. Enjoy the ghost stories and toasted marshmallows.
“Arrest” the Hen
Have some fun by arresting the bride. You will need someone that the bride has never met to make it realistic, or look out for costumes that will hide the identity. Another trick is to “abduct” her.
Make sure this is something she’d be up for, as some brides really hate or have a fear of this idea. If you want to do it, but make it very clear that it’s a joke, you could call yourself the “fashion police” or the “music police” depending on her tastes and personal style.
Enjoy a Day at the Spa
Why not relax instead? Enjoy a day at the spa and then have a night out together afterwards. There are so many ideas.
You could have a manicure and pedicure, a massage, or even visit the local Turkish baths. You will soon find that you’re pampered and ready for the big day.
]]>This year for the Summer Prom look there has to be something new on the cards. The girls are all busy checking the new styles on the internet and trying to replicate the celebs in their own ways. You have some great style for every hair, long or short, thick or thin but you need to choose the best that suits you. Ladies the Prom hair style this summer must also match your new dress for the party.
Here are a few tips on how you can think of wearing your hair to garner some sticky eyeballs.
The tease
The name of this hairstyle is pretty tempting and it should go with your Prom Night dressing up. You have to have a deep side parting with your bangs sectioned into parts so that they fall carelessly on your forehead. The hair can be brushed to one side and then gently back combed so that there is the desired lift to the hair.
The top layer can be patted down for a smooth look. Sweep the hair on one side and attach bob pins so that the nape of the neck is visible.
You can roll the hair inward to create a twist in the hair and use some pins to keep the hair in place. Set the hair with some spray and some pomade to keep the hair in place.
A polished ponytail
You can add some product to smoothen the hair and then blow dry your long hair using a round brush. Blow dry the hair in sections and then roll the bottom portion of the hair slightly.
Tie your hair into a high pony. This should look good with an off shoulder Prom gown.
Waves
This is applicable to mid length hair. You can get the hair curled from the middle to the end with the curling iron. Set up the curls and then brush hair so that you have god volume. The front sections of the hair can be brushed back and secured with bob pins.
Chignon
Start by braiding your hair a two inch of your hair and then securing it with a elastic. The rest of the hair goes into a ponytail secured with a rubber band.
You can twist this section of hair in to a smooth bun at the side and attach some bob pins to keep it secure. Put some sparkling clips on your braid and some antifrizz cream for the sheen. Put some deep conditioner with your fingers.
Chic Pouf
Use some pomade stick on your hair directly for the shine. Then comb the top half and attach the hair to your crown with some pins.
The front should look poufed and then the rest of the hair can be made into a pony. Use some more pomade stick so that you can tackle any flyaway hair.
Cascades
If you have long hair and you are all set to wear an off shoulder Prom gown you would look amazing in cascades. Wet you hair with mousse that enhances curls and then when your hair dries up you have a cascade of bouncing curls all over.
Then gather the top half of the hair with some clips into a high ponytail. The pony should be positioned on the crown so that the hair looks bouncy and cascading down. Add some spritz for a quick refresher.
Bun Ballerina
This is perhaps the easiest hair style you can ever do. You pull the hair into a very tight pony tail and then twist hair to create the bun.
Leave a tuft of hair so that you can wrap it all around the bun. Smooth flyway hair with hair spray and you are all set to wear the style with your new Prom dress and ballerina shoes.
